Have you noticed how many people wear this backpack?

Loads of people, at least in our experience. These ubiquitous backpacks (and many others you’ll see on your travels) are made by Canadian company Herschel Supply Co, the label that brought street cred to the world of backpacks.

Herschel was set up by two brothers and named after the Canadian town where they grew up. Lyndon and Jamie Cormack noticed a gap in the market for good-quality but affordable bags – so that’s what they made. In our ever humble opinion, if you’re buying a backpack you should at least check out the label’s current range – it’s likely you’ll find something that fits your needs, style and budget.

For this year’s autumn/winter line, the brand has collaborated with one of the most exciting Japanese streetwear labels, WTAPS (pronounced “double taps”) in a limited-edition collection destined to sell out fast.

All the bags are tough enough to stand up to daily use and have “Reconnaissance” embroidered across the front in a nod to WTAPS military-inspired clothing. They’re available in black, brown and military green.

The backpacks are made from a durable fabric, and boast plenty of internal pockets including a 15in neoprene laptop pocket and external storage for easy access to those everyday essentials.

Other styles include the messenger bag made from the same fabric and featuring a shoulder strap made from seatbelt webbing, and a travel wallet which comes in handy for keeping your passport, phone and other personal items together. There’s also a wash bag and a penny pouch for those who still have coins lingering at the bottom of their backpack.
