A monumental workout requires a monumental protein shake to refuel afterwards with and this, friend, is a very special protein shake. This isn’t one to glug down after a quick 20-minute workout at lunchtime – it’s one to be saved for those 90-minute weekend super-sessions that leave you in a puddle on the floor.
Multipower (opens in new tab) ambassador Healthy Jon (opens in new tab) has pulled out all the stops with his Mint Choc Chip Smoothie recipe. It contains a massive 37.5g of protein and also packs in 13.3g of fibre, which is almost half your recommended daily amount of 30g. There is no doubt you’ll feel fuller for longer after drinking this.
That’s the good news. There is also some bad news. Before you start chugging it down you should note that this monster shake contains almost 500 calories, 20g of sugar and over 30g of fat. Like we said, this is one to enjoy after your toughest sessions. Or in a survival situation. We’re pretty sure you won’t need to eat again for a week after one of these.
On the plus side it is far healthier than a freakshake – the drink/dessert hybrids that are popular as much for their Instagrammable qualities as the 1,500+ calories of sugary goodness they contain.
Mint Choc Chip Protein Smoothie
- 250ml milk (or dairy free alternative)
- 125ml coconut milk
- Large handful of mint leaves
- Large handful of spinach
- ½ avocado (preferably frozen)
- 1 serving of vanilla whey protein
- 4tsp cacao nibs
- 3 squares of dark chocolate
Put all ingredients into a blender and blitz. No Michelin-star worthy skills are required for this one. Once it’s all shook up, pour into a tall glass and serve.
