As celebrity endorsements go, almonds have impressive pedigree. “Almonds are a good snack – I strongly recommend them.” Who said that? Yep – it was former US President Barack Obama.

He said it as part of an interview where he denied eating exactly seven almonds each night (he actually eats varying amounts of almonds – remember when news about the President used to be light-hearted?). But forget the weird context: President Obama’s advice should be heeded by all.

Almonds are brimming with vitamins and minerals and rich in dietary fibre and unsaturated fats. They also now come in all manner of forms beyond the standard nut, including both milk and butter, both of which are incorporated into this cracking smoothie recipe created by the experts at MaraNatha foods.

Extra nutritional goodness comes from avocado and spinach, which also give the drink its deliciously green appearance. Whip up this tasty blend for a healthy breakfast drink to energise you for the day ahead.
