Monday Blues? You Need to Eat More Brown Crab

With the temperature dropping and the days getting shorter, it’s easy to let the impending bleakness get you down. Here to lend a morale-boosting hand (or claw) is the British brown crab, which could help you avoid the seasonal slump

Recent research from Qingdao University in China – which reviewed information from 26 studies over a 13-year period – found that men who ate a seafood-rich diet were up to 20% less likely to suffer from depression than those who didn’t, thanks to its high levels of polyunsaturated fats, which positively influence dopamine and serotonin levels in the brain.

As well as those healthy fats, the British brown crab – which is fished from April till late November, then left to replenish stocks during winter – also offers high levels of immunity-boosting vitamin C. On top of this, the white meat from its claws is filled with muscle-building protein. But if it’s maximum happiness you’re after, we recommend stewing it with serotonin-regulating sweet potato and spinach in a hearty chowder.
