Dark & White Sprintquest
A combination of trail running, mountain biking and orienteering, this two- to three-hour sprint event is the perfect introduction to adventure racing. If you want a respectable time you’ll need good stamina and an ability to read maps on the go because there’ll be no time for stopping. The exact location hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the organisers promise a mixture of asphalt, grass, grit, mud and even shallow rivers, so be prepared to get wet and dirty.
Adidas Terrex Swift
Kirkgate, Yorkshire Dales
The Adidas Terrex Swift is a two-day non-stop adventure race for mixed-sex teams of four, designed to be accessible for newcomers to this type of event. Trekking, mountain biking and kayaking experience are all helpful but the most important skills for success are map-reading, stamina and teamwork. Surely there’s no better way to spend the Diamond Jubilee bank holiday weekend than racing through the Yorkshire Dales competing for prizes – and, of course, pride.
Questars Race: The Chilterns
This one-day checkpoint-based event for teams of one to four is all about customisation. Kayaking, trail-running and mountain-biking are all on the agenda, but it’s up to you which checkpoints you visit and in which order. For example, if you would prefer to spend more time mountain biking than trail running, you can. This means you can play to your strengths, choose your own route and even change plans mid-race.
