Eggs

As well as being an easily digested food that is gentle on your probably fragile stomach, eggs are also packed full of good old protein. Plus, thanks to their large amounts of cysteine, eggs help mop up alcohol’s leftover toxins.

Bananas

Have you gone that bit too far on the free champagne at the work party and thrown up? Bananas should be your new best friend. They're essential for getting potassium into your system quickly, and are gentle on your stomach. On top of this they also provide essential electrolytes you will have lost during your heavy drinking session.

Green tea

You can’t go wrong with a spot of green tea. Packed with antioxidants, which keep your body’s cells and organs healthy, it’s great for the liver and helps the body recover faster. Feeling nauseous? Might be sick? Add a touch of lavender or rosemary to your green tea to quickly calm your stomach.

Coconut water

A popular hangover cure, and for good reason. Coconut water is incredibly hydrating and one small carton contains more potassium than a banana – a key ingredient if you want to start feeling yourself again. It’s also handy that it’s slightly flavoured. We’ve all been in that position where you know you need to keep drinking water, but it’s just not going down and the lack of flavour makes it boring to drink. Coconut water makes it less of a chore, provided you don’t mind the flavour of coconut. Of course.

Soup

No, it’s not just for when you have a cold and can’t be bothered to make anything else. Soup is also a great healthy hangover cure. The salt found in chicken or tomato soups help you to retain water, and if you’ve been vomiting you’ll need sodium and potassium in your body to help return your electrolytes back to baseline. Plus, the salt will make you thirsty, which will encourage you to get more rehydrating H2O in your body.
